I'd like to make a public service announcement.
If you sign up to play and then decide your not going to then remove yourself from the active session. There were two people who would have like to play today but didn't because it appeared to be full.

I started playing at San Pancho Pickleball about four years ago. I came in with a competitive tennis background, so some parts of the transition felt familiar, but San Pancho is really where I learned how to play pickleball. And from day one, everyone has been warm, welcoming, and encouraging with my growth. I’ve never once felt shunned or pushed aside, and I really appreciate that.

As my game got better, I tried going to a few open plays back home in Los Angeles just to be social and hit with lower-level players. And honestly, I rarely saw the ball. It wasn’t fun for me or for them. They would get frustrated if I lobbed or hit with pace, and I spent most of the time feeding instead of actually playing.

I’ve heard the same thing from intermediate players too — when beginners step into their games, they feel like they can’t rally or work on anything, and it isn’t fun for them either. So it really does go both ways.

There are always different perspectives, and that’s what matters here. Higher-level players aren’t trying to be elitist — they just want to play at a pace that matches their level. And players who are in that space between intermediate and advanced deserve an environment where they can play real points and keep improving without feeling overwhelmed or held back.

That’s why I think Peter’s idea of adding two sessions — one at 8:30 and one at 10:30 — is such a smart solution. It gives the in-between players a dedicated slot, and it also lets the advanced players play at the pace they want. And with two sessions, there’s also room for intermediate players to mix in with the advanced group when it makes sense, which helps them improve even more. It’s a system that supports growth while still keeping games fun and competitive for everyone.
